Privacy Issues Around Face Recognition - How to Comply

Speaker: David S. Ray - Rank One Computing

Face recognition raises complex legal privacy compliance issues, especially in video surveillance, law enforcement and access control. Europe's GDPR requires explicit and revocable consent to collect, retain or transfer biometric data, with limited and narrowly defined exceptions. In the U.S., while there is not (yet) a national privacy framework, end users and integrators must navigate a patchwork of state and municipal regulations, including (A) the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) and similar biometric data privacy laws in Texas and Washington, (B) the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and state privacy breach notification laws, (C) municipal bans in California and Massachusetts towns and (D) Washington's new facial recognition law. In addition, legislative proposals at the Congressional and state levels are pending that could significantly impact system design, implementation, deployment and use of security solutions that utilize face recognition and other biometrics. In this session, we will explore the following: (A) What are the requirements end users and integrators need to know about? (B) What are potential penalties for non-compliance? (C) What are best practices to comply with these requirements, especially in system and procedure design? (D) What can the industry expect for future regulation?

Seeing Inside Objects – New Approaches to Non-Invasive Imaging for Today’s Security Threats

Speaker: Alexander Sappok, PhD - RaySecur Inc.

Security threats have evolved considerably over the past several decades from more conventional explosives and weapons, to newer threats including chemical and biological agents, and even micro-electronics used to access organizations’ IT systems. Today’s threats pack the potential for more harm into smaller and smaller packages. How have non-invasive imaging systems kept up? This presentation covers fundamentals of imaging systems to detect hidden threats ranging from x-rays to mmWaves, and highlights new developments aimed at addressing precisely these critical security issues. Additional topics covered include 2D vs. 3D imaging approaches, safety considerations, and interactive examples of real-time and full-motion imaging of small but high impact threats. If you have ever wondered how it’s possible to “see inside” objects, or want to get up to speed on the latest technologies to see trace quantities of powders or liquids concealed within an item, this is a presentation you won’t want to miss.

Is OSDP in Your Project Requirements? It Should Be

Speaker: Babak Javadi - The CORE Group, a security research and consulting firm

SIA Open Supervised Device Protocol (OSDP), now an IEC standard provides major improvements over Wiegand communications technology, through advanced security, device supervision and management, and interoperability, all under the umbrella of an open and standard protocol. While the protocol has been around for 20 years over the last handful, a growing ecosystem, advancements to the specification and a growing appetite for enhanced security and functionality in end customer requirements have fueled greater adoption. With that said, any technology replacing a long-standing legacy solution has a learning curve. This session will focus on how and why security practitioners can make the case to include OSDP into project plans.

Pivot to a Service Model to Sell Security as a Service and Build More RMR

Panelist: Paul Metzheiser - TAMCO

The purpose of the session is to give leadership the blueprint for making the pivot to more of a service company. What that means is a mindset shift that once relied on project-based cash sales for years, to convert to a subscription style of thinking and selling. The challenge and the opportunity is that Security Integrators want to embrace this change but are unsure how to proceed or overwhelmed by the thought. This session will focus on the eight pillars to make that change and inspire leadership that it is not only attainable but completely in their control.

Surveillance: Using Sound and Sight to Improve Situational Awareness and Safety for K-12 Schools

Moderator: Richard Brent - Louroe Electronics

Panelist: Guy Grace, Member ASIS - Littleton Public Schools, Colorado

Panelist: Noel Glacer - Recruit Group, SOS Parkland 501 (c) 3

Panelist: James Marcella - Axis Communications

Keeping hundreds of students, teachers, and staff safe on campus each day is no small task. Surveillance cameras, access control, and mass notification are integral technologies that work together to safeguard schools from threats. However, to combat today’s security challenges deploying traditional systems alone are not enough. Located near Denver, Colo., Littleton Public Schools (LPS) saw a need to enhance their security solution’s monitoring capabilities for crime deterrence. After reviewing many technologies, LPS installed industry-leading audio security solutions from Louroe Electronics. Deploying a monitoring system that delivers both sound and sight significantly increased LPS’ situational awareness. In scenarios where a hostile visitor walks into the office and an administrator presses a duress button for backup, security personnel can now hear and see what is going on to better plan their response. In lockdown procedures, the command center can listen to the audio from microphones to confirm that mass notification messages are being disseminated so people know where to find shelter. In this session, we’ll review the Littleton Public School security system deployment to explore the benefits of audio security solutions, lessons learned from installation, and best practices for operating this technology on your campus.

Bridging the Gap Between Security Emergencies and 9-1-1

Moderator: Michael Martin, MBA - RapidSOS

Panelist: TJ Kennedy, MBA - The Public Safety Network

Panelist: Tyrell Morris, MBA, CPE - Orleans Parish Communication District

Security systems spot intruders, detect gas leaks, and provide a series of advanced surveillance to safeguard homes and buildings, but how does 9-1-1 access this critical information? In every security-related emergency, whether it's an intruder, fire, or irregular carbon monoxide levels, 9-1-1 dispatchers must understand the situation before sending help to the scene by asking a series of questions. Imagine the time that can be saved if data from security systems can be displayed on the screens of first responders. In this panel, speakers will address how the security industry, in coordination with 9-1-1, is introducing new methods to get people help when it matters most.

Moderator: Mark Andrew Matlock - National Monitoring Center

Panelist: John Loud - LOUD Security Systems

Panelist: John Campau - Comtronics

Panelist: David Morgan - SD Marketing

With a large number of organizations operating in the now instead of looking beyond, this session aims to dive deep into best practices of maintaining and sustaining current business models in the contract monitoring space while identifying new growth drivers. The significance of dealers and integrators staying abreast of new innovations amid the rapid pace at which new technologies enter (and exit) this industry and how this will secure and protect the future of their RMR will be explored throughout the session. Through the incorporation of case studies and interactive discussions, our mission is to persuade dealers and integrators to rethink their business strategy. We will present an evidence-based session that will help them expand their focus beyond burglar and fire monitoring. The primary objective will be to steer them towards a path to become technology-driven solutions providers that can adapt and customize services to fit the specific needs of all industries. The top three learning objectives include: 1. Identifying new growth drivers in the contract monitoring space beyond burglar and fire. 2. Creating a sustainable business cycle. 3. Leveraging your existing customer base to pilot new services and incorporating key success cases to attract new prospects. 4. Utilizing data analytics to deploy customized advertising and sales content relevant to end-users onto digital marketing funnels/channels (e.g. social media, Google Adwords, PPC landing pages, digital infographics, etc.)
