Axis Launches Open, Hybrid Cloud-Based Platform
Axis Cloud Connect is an open hybrid cloud platform that — together with Axis devices — enables managed services to increase efficiency and ensure scalable, future-proof solutions.
“Axis Cloud connect is not a product, it is a platform,” said Patrik Pettersson, senior manager, future business and strategic initiatives, Axis Communications. “We wanted to offer increased cybersecurity, improved integration and the opportunity for developers in the chain to use our platform to develop and enhance solutions.”
Axis Cloud Connect is designed to offer more flexible and efficient video operations, device lifecycle management, and access to data — from anywhere, at any time, according to the company. It also enables new opportunities in security, safety, operational efficiency and business intelligence, all managed by Axis and leveraging AXIS OS and know-how in analytics, image usability and cybersecurity. Axis video management software solution enabled by cloud connect will enable easy access to live and recorded video and events from anywhere — directly in a web browser.

“With growing business insight (BI) offerings that depend on video verifications (and the growth in the safety overlay), the skillset of our dealers is going to be highly valued,” Pettersson said. “These cameras will need to be installed to code, to compliance, and properly for the environment (outdoors, dark spaced, etc.). So I see the growth in BI applications with computer vision as an accelerant in business for the systems integrators. There may be new software partners; there may even be new consultants working with the end user; but the critical skills of the dealer [or integrator] will be extremely attractive.”
This platform enables managed services where Axis takes the added responsibility to host, deliver and run these digital services to keep the system up to date and ensure availability. The platform will allow users to access services using Axis or partner solutions, all enabled by Axis Cloud Connect in combination with Axis devices. The managed services provide smooth integrations, proactive cybersecurity, consistent performance and automatic updates, according to Axis. For instance, AXIS OS ensures Axis devices and systems are always up to date for greater security in the cloud space and less downtime — resulting in less friction and peace of mind.
“Also, Axis Cloud Connect fits well into the growing interest in RMR by the dealer, not from a VSaaS angle, but rather through new managed services,” Pettersson said. “With either self-integration with their own developers into asset management/ticketing systems, or offerings off-the-shelf built solutions with Axis Cloud Connect integration. Either way, the dealer will be able to augment their RMR strategy through managed services such as device monitoring, remote updates, health monitoring and life-cycle management services by knowing the age of the deployments and proactively service the customers.”
Pettersson continued, “This will no longer be done on spreadsheets. Take for example Axis Device Manager Extend, which is a complete product by Axis, built on Axis Cloud Connect — albeit limited to Axis devices only. ...
There will be other third-party offerings with emphasis on multi-vendor environments.”
By using solutions and managed services based on Axis Cloud Connect, security integrators can help their customers get great scalability and simplified onboarding, provisioning and management of Axis devices. With one-click cloud connection functionality and scanning of QR codes, Axis Cloud Connect promotes more secure and faster deployments when installing devices, as well as higher security and lower costs. //

ASSA ABLOY Launches New Mobile-First Access Control Business Centrios
Centrios is a new business within ASSA ABLOY that was founded specifically to provide small businesses in North America with advanced mobile-first access control solutions.
“The Centrios access control platform is designed and built to be one less thing that small businesses need to think about,” said Bryan Lieberman, general manager, Centrios. “Each component is specifically engineered to facilitate the workflow of small businesses and eliminate the pain points they typically encounter. Our hardware, including the cylinder lock and smart reader, is an extension of the platform value proposition.”

Lieberman said that the Centrios platform was designed and engineered with a start-up mindset but with the depth and scale of ASSA ABLOY behind the development team.
“Small businesses are — by definition and default — among the most agile and nimble businesses. Entrepreneurs appreciate innovation and have come to rely upon platforms for a wide array of applications, including accounting and finance, payments, logistics, communications, business development, marketing and much more,” Lieberman said. “It’s fitting that our approach starts with a radically simplified platform — it’s easy to deploy and use; it’s secure and reliable; and it’s scalable and feature-packed.”
“We needed separation to achieve entrepreneurial clarity and drive,” Lieberman said. “We have achieved that within our culture here at Centrios, and that’s evidenced by the simplicity, ease of use and reliability across the app and the hardware, but it’s also apparent within the organization, in our marketing materials and our training.”
The hardware, Lieberman said, was also designed from the ground up to be high-performing, aesthetically and ergonomically evolved, and aligned to small business practices, expectations and realities. The dual impact of a cylindrical lock, smart reader and app will enable business operators to monitor and manage access, scale effectively and support modern business desires to eliminate physical keys from the workplace.
“Product is an important touchpoint,” he said. “And there is an important hierarchy that starts with performance and reliability, ladders up to connectivity and control, and then scalability and interoperability. We considered all of this with the development of Centrios hardware and I think the cylindrical lock and smart reader align exceptionally well with the platform.”
Centrios offers distributors, security integrators, locksmiths and security professionals the opportunity to grow their business with Centrios through a thoughtful partnership program, the announcement states. This program offers on-demand customized training, co-marketing material, prioritized support, and sales leads for partners who have completed their training; however, participation in the partner program is not required to purchase or install Centrios hardware. End users can find participating partners through Centrios’ “where to buy” page.
“Security professionals, like the small businesses they sell to, are looking for holistic providers,” Lieberman said. ... They want it all in the same place, and we’re out there giving them and their customers the most comprehensive, holistic small business solutions in the market.” //

Immix Introduces AI-Driven Solution for AutoPatrol
Immix recently introduced AutoPatrol, a new automated solution for scheduled patrols or guard tours that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to detect threats or scene anomalies without the need for a physical central station or SOC operator to manually perform the patrol.
Immix chose Scylla as the first-ever AutoPatrol partner to power this solution. This in-depth integration will allow Immix clients to leverage Scylla’s advanced AI solutions that enhance security, surveillance and operational efficiency, according to the company.

“Immix is very excited to announce the launch of AutoPatrol,” said Chris Brown, CEO, Immix. “As the platform of choice for monitoring centers focused on delivering managed video services, it is important that we continue to develop solutions that make our partners more efficient and allow them to grow their business at the pace they wish. We believe AutoPatrol fits that mold very nicely in that it improves resource efficiency allowing users to repurpose operators to more valuable, higher-margin services. In addition, this automated AI solution provides reliability and consistency and is not susceptible to operator subjectivity or burnout.”
AutoPatrol works by enabling scheduled video patrols to be automatically performed behind the scenes solely via the embedded AI technology (in the initial offering by Scylla). If the AutoPatrol detects an anomaly, such as a change in scene, tamper, presence of an unauthorized person/vehicle/object, as well as a number of additional conditions that can be selected, it will raise the event to the Immix Patrol Queue to be manually confirmed and processed by a human operator to determine the next step. Once raised into the patrol queue, AutoPatrols resemble regular scheduled patrols. They are positioned at the top of the queue with higher priority than scheduled patrols and are distinctly labeled as AutoPatrols. AutoPatrol has been designed to seamlessly integrate into existing patrolling playbooks, requiring no additional operator training.
“We are thrilled to integrate Scylla’s cutting-edge AI technology with Immix AutoPatrol as we’re ushering in a new era of remote guarding,” said Albert Stepanyan, CEO, Scylla. “This synergy represents the pinnacle of innovation, providing video monitoring centers with an unparalleled toolset for proactive security. Together, we’re shaping the future of surveillance, ensuring safer environments for all.” //

Milestone CEO Emphasizes Industry Collaboration for Responsible AI
With momentum rapidly accelerating around AI governance worldwide, Milestone Systems held press meetings during the opening day of ISC West (April 10) for timely discussions on balancing technology innovation and responsibility.
As an early champion of digital rights protections, Milestone Systems signed the momentous 2018 Copenhagen Letter urging stronger privacy safeguards during adoption of GDPR. Milestone Systems adopted the G7’s landmark Code of Conduct on Artificial Intelligence last year, becoming the first video management software company to align with internationally recognized principles for trustworthy AI development and use.

“We view upcoming regulations as an opportunity to strengthen responsible technology practices that respect civil liberties and human rights,” said Thomas Jensen, CEO. “True alignment requires collaboration between the private sector, policymakers, academia, and civil society. The decisions we all make today around responsible AI will impact generations to come.”
Milestone said its commitment to responsible AI includes researching societal implications, conducting internal testing and monitoring products post-deployment. Furthermore, the company said it strives to integrate ethical considerations throughout the development process to ensure accountability.
Security industry editors met with Thomas Jensen, CEO, Milestone, to discuss the rise of responsible technology governance worldwide, and how the industry must work to achieve public trust given AI’s increasing ability to extract insights from security data. Napco StarLink Operations Center (NOC) Receives SOC 2 Rating
Napco Security Technologies announced its StarLink Network Operations Center (NOC) is now SOC 2 Rated.

In addition to its UL Listed Certifications, Napco’s StarLink NOC has undergone rigorous criteria to implement and meet SOC Policies & Trust Services Criteria for cybersecurity and data privacy protection, i.e., providing added security for all Napco’s dealers’ accounts, the announcement states. The company said it took these important steps, even as cyberattack breaches and huge ransomware demands are becoming more aggressive and prevalent in the United States, and the world at large.
Numerous corporations, healthcare providers, local governments and hospitals have been victimized, paying millions to unlock their databases, confidential files and infrastructure access. This has resulted in service companies increasingly being held responsible for taking demonstrable measures to protect and secure their customers’ data and privacy. Napco said it has done so and taken these significant precautions to protect both its dealers and their accounts’ privacy and liability exposure.
Thus, StarLink Fire Communications offers dealers a true UL end-to-end solution, starting from a UL 864 Listed StarLink Fire Communicator, going through the company’s New York headquarters’ UL 864 NOC to any UL central station a dealer chooses. //
