Renown Health Modernizes Security Infrastructure to Improve Safety

Like most healthcare facilities and hospitals, Renown Health has faced an influx of individuals infected with COVID-19. As a result of this demand, Renown built remote facilities to address the growing demand, but needed to ensure the location’s security. Because these sites are not permanent, stakeholders needed to find a solution that could monitor activity while addressing connectivity and bandwidth limitations. The facility also required the rapid deployment of technology that could integrate with its Milestone Systems XProtect Video Management System seamlessly and support the ongoing expansion of connected devices.

“Everything was crazy — this was the beginning of the pandemic, and it seemed like everything was stacked against any productivity because there was so much uncertainty going on,” said Nic Hasler, president and founder of Incline Technologies, Renown’s chosen integrator partner. “We had a lack of staff, lack of support from various departments, and it was just an overall chaotic experience from start to finish.”

Renown wanted to migrate to the cloud, but needed a solution built specifically for video use cases that offered options to expand as the healthcare environment evolved. After evaluating different options with Incline Technologies, everyone decided that Arcules delivered the best solution for their needs.

“During our selection process, both our security team and our IT organization discovered that Arcules delivered the best solution for our growing environment,” said Joe Edwards, director of security at Renown Health. “When all things were considered, Arcules was the winner hands down.”

Specifically, Hasler recommended the Arcules Edge Cloud Solution to collect and store incoming video data from five Axis cameras on an edge storage device. This allows users to remotely view and manage incoming data via the cloud.

“Arcules was the ideal choice for Renown because of its scalability, flexibility and its ability to integrate with the organization’s existing video infrastructure seamlessly,” Hasler said. “Arcules was able to be agile and develop a hybrid cloud approach. This was intended to be a gateway to do on-premise recording, but we were able to integrate this into the current business model, so we weren’t burdening an organization trying to save lives.”

The Arcules team was also very helpful, Hasler says, providing support throughout the installation.

“It’s been an honor to help Renown provide comprehensive, on-demand healthcare services during this challenging time,” said Nigel Waterton, chief revenue officer at Arcules. “Their need for enhanced security of their mobile sites required a flexible, secure and scalable solution that could meet their limited bandwidth requirements. We were pleased to be able to meet their needs and look forward to future collaborations.” — By Courtney Wolfe, SDM Managing Editor //

Assets of the city of Madison, Wis., are protected by a team of security and technology experts whose responsibility includes everything from assigning rights to software use to protecting taxpayer data to securing buildings and people, and more. When officials were unable to lock down a building during an emergency due to technical issues and the company who installed it said they could not provide on-site support for two days, Ken Ferguson, information specialist 3 and system administrator for the city of Madison, knew he needed to replace the system.

The city chose dormakaba’s Keyscan electronic access control systems, which deliver a broad spectrum of solutions that combine convenience with performance to provide controlled access for all openings.

When the QO Amsterdam hotel was completed, it was one of the first hotels in Europe to become LEED Platinum Certified. In keeping with the energy saving, upscale design of the hotel, the architects specified a Boon Edam TQA automatic revolving door at the main entrance. Operating in an “always open, yet always closed” mode, the revolving doors save energy and control interior climates while being easy for the public to use. As a result of installing the revolving door at the entry, the hotel was able to lower energy consumption for heating by 65 percent and cooling by 90 percent, significantly reducing their energy expenses.

Calipsa’s False Alarm Filtering Platform is being used by Ecuador’s Totem. This is the first Latin American customer to take advantage of Calipsa’s 93 percent false alarm reduction rate, according to the company.

“A big goal in our business is reducing the number of false alarms sent to our operators,” said Luis Fernando Uribe, chief executive officer, Totem. “The Calipsa technology will do that and help us thrive in the competitive Latin America technological market. We want Totem seen as a regional benchmark for innovation in video monitoring.”

viisights Inc. deployed a new installation in the city of Eilat, Israel, to detect, predict and analyze events of interests in real-time and alert authorities of crowding, violent/suspicious activity, traffic or crowd congestion and more. Deployment of the behavioral analytics solution was fast-tracked in preparation for the large number of tourists who typically flood the city during the Passover and upcoming holiday season.

Eilat is the first city in Israel to advance Israel’s “City Without Violence” initiative. Avinoam Nahari, director of the city’s information methods and systems division in charge of the project, said the viisights behavioral analytics solution enables the city to quickly and efficiently address abnormal events for the benefit of its residents and visitors’ safety and security.
