The use of a flashlight to check for fiber optic functionality can be performed with any standard flashlight, preferably one of those really bright LED flashlights. Just hold the connector tip directly on the flashlight’s lens; you may have to move it around a bit to get to the “sweet” spot where the visible light will couple to the fiber connector.
